FIRE RYTHYMS

An interactive installation prototype exploring ideas of connection, community, storytelling and tradition. Using Arduino, MAX MSP, video projection, spatial audio, and a self-built set we created an interactive “fire pit” and sphere of story.

When a new wooden log was placed into the “fire pit”, the difference in weight triggered a new projection and story to play on the hanging fabric pillars. The arrangement of the fabric pillars mimicked Stonehenge and was inspired by traditions of circular patterns in storytelling. Along with projections, speakers were placed throughout the space creating a sense of the outdoors in a dreamlike manner.

This project served as a low-tech prototype of an installation to be further developed. Take a look at some of the ‘behind the scenes’!
